|I was born on the second of December 1938 in Bridgend, South Wales.
My interest in photography began at the age of twelve when, with an Ensign Ful-Vue camera, I first experienced the magic of the image appearing slowly but surely on a piece of paper swishing about in chemicals in a dimly red-lit room. However, it wasn't until some 24 years later when having purchased a good quality camera to photograph my art work that this enthusiasm was re-kindled. I currently use a Canon 400d digital SLR with a Canon 28-135mm IS USM lens. Now photography and painting complement each other.
Many of my photographs are simple and picturesque. If by hanging on a wall they can bring a sense of tranquility to any environment then I feel that I caught a moment worth capturing. I also like to picture the detail that the natural eye can but does not often see due to the hustle and bustle of everyday life, the detail of the world at large.
I now work digitally, but for me, pressing the shutter at the right moment is important and that any subsequent work should be restricted to work that could have been carried out in a traditional darkroom.
I like photographing people in a natural environment. A studio pose may well show the surface features of a person but I like to go beyond that and find and show the real nature; a real smile or laugh or even the sadness that is often there within.
