I was born in 1956 in Kanab, Utah, but have spent the majority of my life in California, Oregon and Washington.

When I was 13 or 14, my dad gave me my first camera, an old Kodak fixed lens 35 mm, and a handful of Kodak beginning photography books. I spent the next three months or so methodically trying every idea suggested in those books. For the next 35 years I have gone through periods where my camera never left my side to periods where it never left my closet.

My current cameras are a Nikon FM2 with either a 28mm or 60 to 300mm zoom (usually the former) and a Fuji S3 digital. I periodically use a Cambo 4 x 5 view camera as well.

I keep trying to explain how I decide on what pictures to take. It's hopeless. I can't explain other than to say that there is something inside of me that wants to communicate to others what I feel at a particular moment, whether it's the loneliness of an empty mine, the beauty of another artist's creation or just sharing the funky stuff I see on a day to day basis. If I can connect to you through a photograph, then I'm a happy man.
