There are some excellent books on powder compacts and ladies' accessories, though these are mostly by American authors. These provide historical information, price guides and values, and are beautifully presented with excellent photographs. Juliette Edwards privately published her own book on British compacts, though I believe that there are no longer any copies available. However, Juliette has just written a book on compacts for Miller's which is now available and is a `must have' for all compact lovers. It has beautiful photography and is packed full of information, hints and advice on every type of compact and manufacturer you could wish for. |

The following list of books by American authors, together with the ISBN number, provides a wonderful resource for collectors. Some of these books are quite expensive, but most good booksellers should be able to order them for you. You will also find booksellers at some of the Antique Fairs. You may also be able to find other books by logging on to the Internet at amazon.com for example where you can buy direct. Another source is old magazines, advertisements or catalogues from cosmetics companies but these may be more difficult to find, though some dealers at the fairs specialise in ephemera. |
